Ashtabhuja Devi Temple – Vindhyachal

Mata Ashtabhuja Devi’s name translates to “mother with eight hands.” Her eight hands are used to bless her followers. A lengthy, deep tunnel contains Maa Ashtabhuja’s idol. To ensure that tourists have no difficulties, lighting has been installed to illuminate the cave.

Maa Ashtabhuja Devi Ji’s temple, which is located atop Vindhya Mountain, is a well-known and historic temple. This temple is placed inside the cave, which makes it much more holy and pleasant since the eternal flame is burning there. This temple draws visitors and believers alike because of its serene environment. 160 stone stairs must be climbed to get to the temple, which is located atop the Vindhyachal mountain.

History About the Temple :

Maa Ashtabhuja was born in the house of the vicious Kansa and she was the sister of Lord Krishna. Mahamaya had warned Kansa, “What harm will a wicked person like you do to me? The one who will kill you has already been born.” Saying this, the goddess flew towards the sky and landed on the Vindhya mountain, which is described by Markandeya Rishi in Durga Saptashati as “Nand Gop Grihe Jaata Yashoda Garbha Sambhava, Tatas Tau Nashyishyaami Vindhyaachal Nivaasini”.

Since then, Maa Vindhyavasini has been residing on the Vindhya mountain, blessing her devotees. During Navaratri, the number of devotees in the Vindhya Dham increases. Without worshipping and seeing the Ashtabhuja Devi at Ashtabhuja Devi Temple, the TrikonParikrama is incomplete. The Adi Shakti Mata Vindhyavasini is on one side of the Vindhya region, while Mahakali and Mahasaraswati (Ashtabhuja Devi) are on the other side, making the region a holy pilgrimage site.

Even today, Markandeya Rishi is sitting in the cave of the Ashtabhuja Devi Temple and worshipping the Goddess. There is a small cave on the right side of Mata. In the same cave, the sage is still engrossed in the meditation of the Ashtabhuja Devi.

On the occasion of Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratras, devotees from all over the country come to this fair which is held here. This fair is such an occasion in which people celebrate the festival of Navratri with pomp and show by worshipping Goddess Bhagwati. Many bhandaras are held at this fair, in which devotees get different types of food, offerings and clothes etc.

The temple of Maa situated on the Vindhya mountain has ensured easy access for the devotees through the construction of a ropeway. The facility of this ropeway is available which makes the darshan of the Ashtabhuja Devi even more convenient for the devotees.
